China Coast Community

A Brief Report

China Coast Community Limited was set up in 1978 and is approved as a Charity under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance.

The history dates back to 1978 when the Very Reverend Stephen Sidebotham, the Dean of St. John's Cathedral, convened a meeting of those concerned with care of the elderly in Hong Kong . Following a detailed survey which revealed the urgent need for residential facilities for people in Hong Kong whose main language was English, the concept of the CCC was born.

In 1979 through the support of the Hong Kong Jockey Club and an interest free loan from the Hong Kong Government, 63 Cumberland Road was purchased and converted into residential accommodation for eight persons. This was subsequently extended in 1982 to house extra Residents.

Presently, there are 38 Residents of diverse social and ethnic background whose needs have changed drastically over the years resulting in the China Coast Community becoming fully licensed as a Care and Attention Home in April 2000 with Nursing care provided on a twenty four hour basis. The oldest Resident is 99 years of age and the youngest is 61.

China Coast Community has over 70 Community members who live in their own homes and join in the two monthly outings as well as activities at the Home giving them an opportunity to widen their circle of friends and to ease any loneliness they may experience.

The combined efforts of Staff, Supporters, Volunteers and all Agencies who are involved at the China Coast Community are very much appreciated and most important in allaying the fear of growing old without family support around.

We are very grateful and most appreciative to Savills for their continued support over the years.
