BGC PARTNERS LIFT THE CUP AFTER CLOSE CONTEST IN SAVILLS PROFESSIONS SEVENS 2009

Hong Kong, 13th December, 2009: Sixteen teams and a record crowd of around 3,000 turned out at Stanley Fort for the Savills Professions Sevens rugby tournament today as rival teams from the corporate world challenged each other in the name of charity.

BGC Partners beat The Royal Bank of Scotland 24-19 in a closely contested final, with the match been one in extra time with golden point. Earlier, The Royal Bank of Scotland defeated CLSA 40-10 in one semi-final, and BGC Partners beat JSM 43-0 in the other.

BGC Partners number 9 Snow Scheres was awarded the Player of the Tournament. Try of the Tournament went to Savills by James Robinson.

For the 26th year running, the main tournament took a break at lunchtime to make way for the Directors' Challenge. Hong Kong's corporate heavyweights including Simon Moseley of Goldman Sachs, Harvey Twomey of Deutsche Bank, David Kidd from Allen & Overy, and Chris Marriott of Savills Hong Kong - swapped pinstriped suits and brogues for jock straps and rugby boots and fought for their best to win this battle of the boardroom. However the two sides proved to be equally strong that the score was 0-0.

For the second time, two ladies teams took to the field to illustrate progress of women's rugby in Hong Kong. It was a lawyers to lawyers game with Allen & Overy taking on Tanner de Witt. Tanner de Witt proved to be invincible with the win of 49-0 against Allen & Overy. The two teams made this exciting match one of the highlights of the day!

Companies that took part in the tournament covered the property, finance, legal, security and accounting industries and included hosts Savills, Allen & Overy, BGC Partners, CLSA, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, GFI Securities, Goldman Sachs, Holman Fenwick Willan, HSBC, Jardine Matheson, J.P. Morgan, JSM, Morgan Stanley, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Swire Pacific, and Tanner De Witt.

Proceeds form the Savills Professions Sevens 2008 went to six local charities: Hong Kong Cancer Fund, China Coast Community, Fu Hong Society, Enlighten Hong Kong, Riding for the Disabled, and the David S. Davies Foundation, benefiting both the young and the old in the community.
