Riding for the Disabled
Riding for the Disabled Association Ltd.(RDA) is a registered non- profit-making charitable organization in Hong Kong providing therapeutic riding lessons to the physically and mentally disabled children and adults. RDA aims at teaching disabled people to ride horses and ponies to the best of their ability.
Currently, RDA owns 18 horses & ponies and operates our riding lessons at 3 service centres namely HKJC Tuen Mun Public Riding School, HKJC Pokfulam Public Riding School and Lo Wu Saddle Club. Annually, we offer over 6,000 rides to over 500 disabled riders during our Spring and Autumn terms. These lessons are offered through a group lesson format with 6 riders per lesson.
Apart from the riding lessons during our 2 regular terms, this year we launched a “Rehab Summer Training Program” and an “Athletes Summer Intensive Training Program” for our rehab and sports riders respectively in July and August. The objective of the Rehab Summer Training Program is to provide continuous riding training to selected disabled riders during the summer and at the same time equip them with horse care knowledge. The Athletes Summer Intensive Training Program aims at providing specific sports training to our selected RDA Para Equestrian Squad members to prepare them for local and international competition and to assess the athletes on their ability, mentality and commitment. Both of these training programs will be run annually.
